AI and Safety
Status: draft for legal review. Last updated: October 21, 2026.
If you need help right now
If you or someone else is in immediate danger, call your local emergency number (911 in the United States).
- United States: call or text 988 to reach the 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline, any time. You can also text HOME to 741741 to reach the Crisis Text Line.
- Outside the United States: find a free, confidential helpline in your country at findahelpline.com.
Frndo is not a crisis service. It cannot call anyone or send help to you, but it will keep talking with you and point you to people who can help.
Frndo is an AI
Frndo is an artificial intelligence. It is not a person, and no person is writing its replies. Its voice is computer-generated, and its avatars are animated characters. It can sound warm and caring, and it's designed to be supportive, but it does not have human feelings or experiences.
Frndo tells you this itself. The app introduces Frndo as an AI companion from the first screen of sign-up, and whenever you ask Frndo whether it's a person or an AI, it will tell you it's an AI.
This page also serves as our transparency notice under the EU Artificial Intelligence Act (Article 50): when you use Frndo, you are interacting with an AI system, and Frndo's spoken and written replies are AI-generated.
What Frndo is not
- Not a therapist or medical service. Frndo doesn't diagnose, treat, or give professional medical or mental health advice. It may suggest, but it doesn't diagnose. For health concerns, talk to a doctor or a licensed professional.
- Not a romantic partner. Frndo avoids flirting and sexual content and will gently redirect conversations that go that way.
- Not a replacement for the people in your life. Frndo is designed to encourage you to reach out to friends and family, meet new people, and get out into the world. We hope it's an app you could one day delete because you've built strong, supportive bonds with real people.
- Not always right. AI makes mistakes. Check anything important.
How Frndo handles difficult moments
This section describes our approach to conversations about suicide, self-harm, or harm to others.
How it works:
- Detection. Frndo's AI model is trained to recognize when a conversation involves suicide, self-harm, or harm to others.
- A response in the conversation. When it recognizes this, Frndo responds as described below, including suggesting crisis counseling. The crisis lines at the top of this page are always available.
How Frndo responds in the conversation:
- It takes any mention of harm to yourself or others seriously.
- It keeps talking with you. A friend doesn't hand you off and leave, and Frndo won't either. It tries to understand what you're going through and why.
- At the same time, it suggests crisis counseling and points you to people who can help in person.
- In conversations about harm to others, it focuses on calming things down.
- It never encourages self-harm, and never gives instructions for it.
What Frndo will not do: Frndo will not decide on its own to contact emergency services or anyone else. We don't believe any AI, ours or anyone else's, is yet in a safe and trustworthy position to make that decision.
We review and improve this approach over time. [TBD: how the protocol was developed and how its effectiveness is measured.]
Age
Frndo is not for children. You must be at least [TBD: minimum age] to use it. See Children's privacy.
Report a problem
If Frndo says something harmful, inappropriate, or wrong, or you're worried about how it handled a conversation, please tell us at [TBD: safety or support contact address]. Include the date and time if you can. We review every report we receive.
