US state privacy notice

Status: draft for legal review. Last updated: October 8, 2026.

This notice adds to our Privacy Policy for residents of US states with consumer privacy laws, including California (CCPA, as amended by the CPRA), Colorado, Connecticut, Delaware, Indiana, Iowa, Kentucky, Maryland, Minnesota, Montana, Nebraska, New Hampshire, New Jersey, Oregon, Rhode Island, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, and Virginia. [TBD: confirm which state laws apply to Frndo given its size and number of users.]

We do not sell or share your personal information

We do not sell your personal information, and we do not share it for cross-context behavioral advertising. We don't use it for targeted advertising, and we don't use it for profiling that produces legal or similarly significant effects. We have not done any of these in the past 12 months. Because we don't, there is nothing to opt out of; if this ever changes, we will update this notice first and give you a way to opt out.

We do not knowingly sell or share the personal information of anyone under 16.

What we collect

In the past 12 months we have collected these categories of personal information, from you and your device. Each is used for the purposes in the Privacy Policy and disclosed for those purposes only to the service providers on our Subprocessors page.

  • Identifiers: name, email address, Apple account identifier, device identifiers, IP address.
  • Personal records (California Civil Code 1798.80): name, and health information you choose to share.
  • Protected characteristics: only if you choose to mention them in conversation, such as age, religion, or health conditions.
  • Internet or network activity: how you use the app, and technical and performance data.
  • Geolocation: your precise location, if you allow location access.
  • Audio: none. Speech is turned into text on your iPhone and audio is never sent to us.
  • Inferences: the memories and profile Frndo builds from your conversations, such as your preferences, goals, and mood patterns, used only to talk with you.
  • Sensitive personal information: precise geolocation, health information, and anything sensitive you share in conversation, such as religious beliefs or sex life, and your Apple account sign-in credentials.

We use sensitive personal information only to provide the service you asked for, to keep it secure, and for other purposes the CCPA permits. We don't use it to infer characteristics about you for any other purpose, so the California "limit the use of my sensitive personal information" right does not apply. In states that require consent before processing sensitive data, we rely on your consent. [TBD: describe how the app asks for consent to process sensitive data.]

How long we keep each category is in the Privacy Policy.

Your rights

Depending on your state, you have the right to:

  • know and access the personal information we have about you, including the categories, sources, purposes, and recipients;
  • get a copy in a portable format;
  • correct inaccurate information;
  • delete your information;
  • opt out of sale, sharing, targeted advertising, and certain profiling (we don't do any of these);
  • not be discriminated against for using your rights;
  • appeal if we decline your request.

How to use your rights

Email privacy@frndo.app, or use the options described on Delete your account and data. We'll verify your identity by confirming the request from the email address on your account, or by other reasonable means if you use a hidden Apple email. We'll respond within 45 days, which we may extend once by another 45 days if needed.

You can use an authorized agent. We'll ask the agent for proof that you authorized them, and may ask you to verify your identity directly.

Appeals: if we decline your request, you can appeal by replying to our decision or emailing privacy@frndo.app with the subject "Privacy appeal". We'll respond within the time your state's law requires. If you're not satisfied, you can contact your state attorney general.

Global Privacy Control

Because we don't sell or share personal information, or use it for targeted advertising, there is nothing for a Global Privacy Control signal to opt you out of. Our website sets no cookies or advertising trackers.
